Isabella Balta
is an artist.
Born in Paterson, NJin 2003 to a Peruvian-American father and a Colombian mother, she feels very fortunate to have been raised to value her roots, her passions, her languages and communities. From an early age, she was drawn to storytelling, and beyond that, the many crafts that involve image-making for the purpose of telling a story. Today, she explores this interest through cinematography — both as the DP or gaffer on a given project — photography, poetry, fiction writing and various crafts she might pick up here and there.
She lovesbreaking down a script, problem solving with her collaborators, and trying new ways to make a shot beautiful and supportive of the story in-camera as much as possible.
And, she loves experimenting with form, trying new rhythms, combining strange images, playing with blank space and throwing punctuation at the wall until it sticks.
In her free time, she’s trying to read more, always trying to write more. If she has a roll, she’ll go out to take a picture.
When she’s lucky, she’s traveling or seeing some greenery, and somewhere near her, music plays. She is hungry to continue learning her crafts and to meet new people, both peers and mentors.

She has experience fufilling other roles on-set, including 1st and 2nd AC, key gripping, best electric and dolly gripping. Notable cameras include the Sony Venice and the Arri Alexa Mini.
She has colored (Unwoven, Eternal Springtime, Lifeline) and edited a few of her projects.
She has also done paid production assistant work for Golden Child and Apostrophe projects based in New York.
She has published poems through Allium, A Journal of Poetry and Prose, and has worked for the journal under Tony Trigilio as an assistant aquisitions editor.
